About Family Day Care

Why family day care?

In short, because family daycare combines high quality care and small group sizes in a comfortable environment. Your children will receive at level of care that compares favorably with a nanny or au pair, but at a significantly lower cost and with Commonwealth financial support.

Family Day Care is an approved form of child care that is provided in a specially prepared private home. Family day care educators are childcare professionals that work in partnership with a local approved service who provide regular visits to monitor the children’s progress and to provide support. Children are cared for in groups no larger than four children, and the environment is much closer to your family home, rather than the school like environments common at daycare centers.

Can I get government support?

Yes. Family daycare is the same as a commercial long daycare in this regard, and you can claim the childcare subsidies.
